Who is this article for:
This is a reflection article piece on what is true wealth for me, and why while money is important, we need more than just money to achieve true wealth, peace, and balance. This article is for the general public.

Achieving Peace of Mind and Balance in Life

having peace and balance

Tony Robbins says that the quality of your life is directly proportional to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably live with.

The key to living comfortably with uncertainties is understanding that while money is important, we need more than just money to achieve peace of mind and balance in life.

In today’s society, we often associate wealth with financial success and material possessions such as luxury items. However, true wealth is more than that. It is also about having peace of mind and balance in life.

While financial success can provide temporary happiness, it may not necessarily lead to long-term life fulfillment.

In today’s article, I write about my reflections on my view of what is true wealth (while still understanding that money and investing are important).

What is True Wealth?

In my view, true wealth is a state of being, as opposed to a state of having or owning something.

It is about having a sense of inner contentment regardless of our financial situations or possessions.

True wealth is about living a balanced life, where we have time for not only work, but family and hobbies, and where we feel fulfilled in each of these important areas.

In ancient Greece, philosophers such as Socrates and Plato discussed the idea of eudaimonia, which means “human flourishing” or “the good life”.

In Buddhist philosophy, true wealth has been associated with the concept of “right livelihood,” which refers to doing work that is ethical and fulfilling.

Why is Achieving Peace of Mind and Balance Important?

Because it leads to long-term fulfillment and happiness.

If we solely focus on financial success and material possessions, we may be trapped in a cycle of always wanting more, which then leads to stress, anxiety, and burnout.

But if we focus on achieving inner peace and balance, we can live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Furthermore, when we have peace of mind and balance, we are better equipped to handle life’s challenges. We will be more resilient and better able to cope with stress and adversity.

8 Tips on Life and Investment from Charlie Munger

As Charlie Munger says, a prescription for misery is to go down and stay down when we get our first, second, and third severe reverse in the battle of life. So having that peace of mind and balance internally can help us get back up too.

How to Achieve Peace of Mind and Balance?

These are some of the ways that I found useful to achieve that balanced inner-self:

1. Understand where you are going: It is important to define our life values, principles, and strengths. Reflect on what matters most in your life, and make goals and priorities that align with your values. A book that I found useful in helping me guide my principles is Principles; Your Guided Journal (Create Your Own Principles to Get the Work and Life You Want) by Ray Dalio.

2. Be present: Mindfulness is a useful practice of being in the present moment and not engaging or being non-judgemental with our thoughts and feelings. Mindfulness can help us cultivate a sense of inner peace and calm. And helps us become more aware of our values and priorities.

3. Build close and positive relationships: There is an almost 80-year-old Harvard University study that concluded that close relationships, more than money or fame, are what keep people happy throughout their lives.

4. Pursue meaningful work: Doing work that you find meaningful and fulfilling is a crucial part of achieving true wealth. Try to find skills and passions that can align with your career or work that allows you to make a positive impact and be fulfilled.

5. Transcendental meditation: I first heard of transcendental meditation, or TM in short, when Ray Dalio mentioned it. I have been doing it for more than a year now, maybe close to 2, and it has profoundly changed my life because it allows me to take a step back and not get caught in the moment or emotions that are unproductive.

In Conclusion

Remember to also take care of yourself by making time to Slow Down and do self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, and hobbies. Rest and relaxation are as important as work.

Because true wealth is not only about financial success but also about achieving a balanced inner peace.

I will end this article with one of my favorite quotes:

albert einstein said that A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness
